The University of Maine is a public, four-year, institution of higher learning located in the small suburb of Orono, Maine. UMaine was founded in 1865 as the Maine College of Agriculture and the Mechanic Arts. The land-grant and sea-grant university changed its name in 1897, and the flagship campus of the University of Maine System. Located in Orono along the banks of the Stillwater River, this vibrant and dynamic university serves Maine, the nation, and the world through its teaching, research and outreach mission.
UMaine offers bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs, in addition to certificates.
