Arkansas State University is a public university located on an 800 acre campus in Jonesboro, Arkansas. ASU was founded in 1909 by the Arkansas Legislature as an agricultural training school known as the First District Agricultural School. In 1918 the school began offering two year programs and in 1925 the First District Agricultural School became the First District Agricultural and Mechanical College. The institution began offering a four year degree program in 1930 and in 1933 became Arkansas State College. In 1967 it became Arkansas State University. In addition to the Jonesboro campus, campus locations in Newport, Beebe and Mountain Home make up the ASU system.
Arkansas State University offers bachelor, master and doctoral degrees and professional certificates. The Jonesboro location has an enrollment of over 10,000 students, and the ASU system as a whole enrolls over 22,000 students. Tuition for in state ASU students is $7,180 per year, and out of state tuition is $12,610 per year.

ASU, a military friendly university is a member of Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges and assists military members as well as their spouses reach their educational and professional goals. ASU offers an online program that gives military students access to professors, course information and resources regardless of where they may be stationed during the time that they are attending ASU. Tuition reimbursement, Post 9/11 GI Bill Benefits and the Montgomery GI Bill are all programs that are available to military students. Military spouses wishing to receive a master’s in education can use Post 9/11 GI Bill education dollars to pay for this program.
ASU offers a variety of services to its students including health services, tutoring, day care, placement services and campus security and safety services such as a late night escort/transport service, student patrols, emergency telephones, 24 hour a day vehicle and foot patrols and more.
