School Details
In 1973 the first students sat in the first classes offered at the University of Texas Permian Basin. As an upper-level university, UT Permian Basin filled a unique niche in the public higher education system in Texas. It would offer only junior, senior, and graduate-level courses from 1973-1991. In the fall of 1991, UT Permian Basin became a traditional four-year university with a curriculum that ranges from freshman to graduate courses. The mission of The University of Texas of the Permian Basin is “to provide quality education to all qualified students in a supportive in-person and online educational environment; to promote excellence in teaching, research, and service; and to serve as a resource for the intellectual, social, economic, technological advancement, and healthcare of the diverse constituency in Texas and the region.”
UTPB offers bachelor’s and master’s degrees in liberal arts and sciences, business, education, and nursing, many of which can be earned completely online through the Department of Continuing Education.
