About Western Illinois University
Western Illinois University is a public university that is located in the small town of Macomb, Illinois. WIU was established in 1899 as Western Illinois State Normal School and focused on teacher training for a small body of students. As it grew, Western Illinois State Normal School became the Western Illinois State Teachers College. Today, WIU is made up of two campuses that offer a wide range of academic programs.
