School Details
Prairie View A&M University, the first state-supported College in Texas for African Americans, was established in 1876 during the Reconstruction Period after the Civil War. The four-year senior college program began in 1919 and then, in 1937, a division of graduate studies was added. In 1973, the name of the institution was changed to Prairie View A&M University, and its status as an independent unit of the Texas A&M University System was confirmed. Today PVAMU offers eight colleges and schools and more than 70 degree programs. Students benefit from challenging and rewarding experiences that inspire them to dream big.
Prairie View offers bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees. PVAMU offers online degrees at the graduate level. PVAMU online degree programs feature the same “…tradition of excellence in teaching, research and service from anywhere in the world” goal as the programs on campus.
