About New Jersey City University
New Jersey City University was founded in 1927 as The New Jersey State Normal School in Jersey City. In 1935, authorization to offer a four-year teacher education program was granted and the school’s name was changed to New Jersey State Teachers College in Jersey City. After a few more name changes, in 1998 the institution was granted university status and subsequently renamed New Jersey City University. The school is dedicated to being diverse and ensuring its students are upwardly mobile.
NJCU offers undergraduate and graduate degrees and certificates from the following schools and colleges:

- William J. Maxwell College of Arts and Sciences
