Master of Social Work / Clinical Practice
New Mexico Highlands University

Program Details

The CSWE-accredited online MSW in Clinical Practice from New Mexico Highlands University’s respected Facundo Valdez School of Social Work can be completed in two years. Students graduate with the critical thinking, organizational and communication skills pivotal to success in social work.

Experienced faculty prepare students to work as direct service practitioners with Hispanic, Indigenous and rural communities, primarily in the Southwest, through theoretical learning with hands-on fieldwork. The emphasis on clinical practice ensures learners will be prepared to interview, perform psychosocial assessments, formulate treatment plans and provide evidence-based treatments for individuals and groups. Degree curriculum is constantly updated based on community needs and feedback from students, ensuring the content is relevant and informed.

Each student is paired with a faculty member who serves as their advisor throughout the program, providing personalized attention. In the first-year field practicum, students are placed in a social service agency where they learn generalist practice methods. Students must complete the second-year field practicum in a clinical setting to satisfy the clinical practice concentration. The university works with students to provide field placement opportunities. Upon graduation, learners can sit for the LMSW licensure exam in New Mexico and the ASWB national exam.
