Program Details

The online Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Certificate offers pediatric primary care nurse practitioners the necessary training to meet the evolving needs of the PNP-AC role. This program aligns with the Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Competencies addressed by the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties and the Consensus Model for APRN regulation. Graduates of the program will be eligible to apply for the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board's pediatric acute care certification exam.

The online PNP-AC programs includes the following competencies:

  • Effective assessment, diagnosis, and management of health problems encountered in acutely ill children
  • Treatment of pediatric acute and chronic care conditions
  • Translation of evidence-based research into workable pediatric acute care solutions


  • Official transcripts (from all post-secondary schools)
  • Evidence for completion of at least 500 clinical hours in NP role and population
  • Scholastic GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale from an accredited college or university
  • Current nursing licensure
  • Licensure and certification as a nurse practitioner
  • One year of nurse practitioner experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to nursing practice and scholarly pursuit
  • Community service and professional commitment
  • Personal interview may be requested
  • Letters of recommendation
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) if English is not your first language
