Program Details

The online Master of Arts in Music with a concentration in Music Education program further prepares students to teach music.  The curriculum allows working music educators to apply new ideas and teaching techniques directly to their classrooms as they advance through the program.  Courses include:

  • Music Theory Pedagogy
  • History and Philosophy of Music Education
  • Graduate Music Education Seminar
  • Seminar in Music History
  • Psychology of Music Teaching and Learning

Requirements

A one-week residency on the EIU campus is required.

  • Baccalaureate degree in music education from an accredited institution approved by Eastern Illinois University and a minimum undergraduate cumulative GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale or a 2.75 GPA on the last 60 hours of graded academic course work
  • Official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended
  • Minimum of one year teaching experience
