About New York University

Secretary of the Treasury for both Presidents Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, Albert Gallatin had a vision to establish an educational center in New York City. In 1831, New York University was founded and first educated 158 students. Today, the private, not-for-profit University incorporates 18 schools and colleges at various locations in Manhattan in addition to satellite campuses in Africa, Asia, Europe, and South America. Students from across the United States and from more than 130 foreign countries attend New York University.

NYU houses online opportunities for students through the New York University School of Continuing and Professional Studies. Founded in 1934, NYU-SCPS offers undergraduate, graduate, and noncredit programs for career-driven students. Students interested in online learning can choose from graduate degrees and certificate programs.

NYU online degrees are designed by the same faculty as on-campus programs, creating online programs that are high-quality and highly flexible. Each course is customized to meet its own needs, improving all courses and programs.

GetEducated Team Takes
Tony’s Take

NYU is rigorous, career-connected, and expensive. Classes move fast and demand real effort. Heavy reading and independent work are common. Compressed 6-week courses raise the pace even more.

Double loads can speed completion, but increase strain. Teaching quality is a clear plus. Professors are often knowledgeable and approachable. Access outside class is a recurring strength.

Learning also connects to work settings. Internships, networking, and field-based experiences are part of the academic path. Cost stays central in the NYU experience. Tuition pressure is real at this school.

Value feels stronger with scholarships or clear career payoff. NYU fits students who handle fast deadlines and plan ROI early.
