About New Jersey Institute of Technology
The New Jersey Institute of Technology has incorporated a “four-pronged mission of education, research, service, and economic development” in order to prepare students for the twenty-first century. Founded in New Jersey in 1881, this public institution enrolls over seven thousand undergraduate and nearly three thousand graduate students. It later evolved into a technological university dedicated to research and public service. The tradition of research and development has continued with the birth of distance learning courses. NJIT professors created and trademarked the “Virtual Classroom” phrase in the 1970s.
