Program Overview

West Georgia Technical College offers a Human Resource Management Specialist Certificate for those who want to learn about the functions of a human resources manager or a human resources department in order to understand the responsibilities involved in hiring, retention, and evaluation of employees in order to maintain and improve organizational efficiency. Throughout their studies, students may increase the skills needed to manage specialized human resource teams and how to develop policies and practices on key personnel issues.

As part of the program, students will study materials relating to the management of personnel in business, nonprofit, and government organizations. The curriculum consists of 18 credit hours of classes which include human resources management, employee training and development, and labor management relations.   

Students completing the program should have the potential to display understanding of: the processes and principals involved in the development of human resources practice, policies, and goals in order to meet organizational needs, the process of organizational change, the process of understanding employee and practice evaluation in order to determine contributions, and the process involved in employee evaluation in the process of employee development, training, performance management, and retention.

Furthermore, students should be educated on the processes involved in creating and developing employee compensation and benefits systems as part of human resources responsibilities and understanding the processes in further worker and management relationships in order to meet organizational and regulatory employment safety and performance standards.

    West Georgia Technical College is a division of the Technical College System of Georgia, and provides education to a seven-county service area that includes the counties of Carrol, Douglas, Coweta, Haralson, Heard, Meriwether, and Troup. WGTC has campus locations in Carrolton, Newman, Douglasville and Waco, Georgia. All of the campuses were originally a part of the West Central Technical College, which is based in Waco. West Georgia Technical College is the second largest technical college in Georgia. ​WGTC’s mission is "to lead economic and workforce development by offering learning opportunities using traditional and distance learning delivery methods."

    WGTC awards technical certificates of credit, diplomas, and associate degrees through the following schools:

    WGTC’s distance learning program offers completely online programs in the areas of accounting, business, fire science, management, marketing, and medical office specializations. Students are able to enroll in completely online programs which lead to technical certificates, technical diplomas or associate's degrees.
