Program Overview

University of Wisconsin-Stout now offers its BS in Human Development and Family Studies online. This degree-completion program is designed for adults with work or family obligations. The program offers convenience, flexibility and affordability. This online program prepares graduates for a variety of human service related professional careers such as child care management, senior living center management and activities coordination, residential treatment programs, juvenile corrections and family advocacy. In addition, the program is an excellent foundation for advanced studies in marriage and family therapy, clinical social work, professional counseling and much more. After meeting general education requirements, students will shape their career paths by relevant courses in subjects such as family relationships, human development at all stages, family dynamics, human sexuality, cultural diversity, family resource management and abuse in the family.     School Overview

    The University of Wisconsin-Stout was founded by Mr. James Huff Stout as a set of vocational training schools in Menomonie, beginning in 1891. The schools formed an independent institute in 1908 and then came under the jurisdiction of the Board of Regents of State Colleges in 1955. In 1971, Stout was designated by the Board of Regents as one of only two special mission universities in the UW System. Stout was to offer focused programs "related to professional careers in industry, technology, home economics, applied art and the helping professions." In March 2007, UW-Stout was designated "Wisconsin's Polytechnic University" by the UW System Board of Regents.
