The need for certified science and technology teachers in west Alabama is on the rise. With the online Bachelor of Science in General Science: Teacher Certification program from the University of West Alabama, you’ll prepare to become a certified educator and respond to the state’s growing teacher shortage. 

This program is the first fully online degree of its kind in the state of Alabama and is designed to help you achieve your professional goals on your schedule. As a student, you’ll access your courses from anywhere and learn from expert educators in a virtual classroom. 

As you complete your general science degree online, you’ll build expert-level knowledge that can be immediately shared with your students in the classroom, including lessons on zoology, analytical chemistry, human anatomy, geology and more. You’ll also gain innovative skills for educational technology, classroom management, reading methods and teaching special education. 

Additionally, the general science program offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience working with secondary students inside the classroom. Twelve hours of teaching experience are required to complete this internship. Credit may be awarded for those who have prior teaching experience completed before enrolling in the program.
