Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene

Program Details

There are two pathways to earn your online Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene from the University of South Dakota.  You can transfer to the USD online program with an associate’s degree, or enter the program outright. With either path, you must be enrolled in, or have completed, an accredited dental hygiene program which is ADA compliant.

A BS degree in Dental Hygiene is now recommended for entry-level positions in the dental field.  However, with this super versatile online degree, you are not limited to working in a private dental practice.  You can begin a career in dental sales and marketing, local community outreach, education, research, or work for the federal or state government in public health.  If you do chose a clinical setting, with an online BS from USD you can work in a variety of locations, for instance:  Native American reservations, nursing homes, hospitals, schools, and prisons.  Coursework for this degree includes:

  • Interprofessional practice
  • Current trends in dentistry
  • Patient care
  • Collaborative dentistry

Requirements

This is a bachelors completion program. A total of 120 credits are required, including transfer credits.

  • Must submit official transcript indicating graduation from a CODA accredited dental hygiene program with an associate’s degree.
