Program Details

The University of North Carolina at Pembroke offers an online substance abuse counseling degree program, the Graduate Certificate in Addictions Counseling.  This program is designed for those interested in addiction-specific professional counseling careers, leadership roles, and advocacy positions.  Courses are geared toward preparing addiction professionals to meet the complex needs of those dealing with addictive use disorders along with their families.  You will learn about substance-related and addictive use disorders, methods and theories of addiction specific assessments and interventions, and psychopharmacology and addiction.  Students also study the impact of substance disorders on families and the current issues and special populations in addiction.  Graduates will have met the North Carolina Substance Abuse Professional Practice Board (NCSAPPB) addiction specific educational requirements for the Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist (LCAS) credential.
