Program Details

The online MS in Mathematics degree program from The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley is designed to provide advanced education to students who intend to teach at various levels, students who will continue or seek employment within the industrial sector, and students who intend to continue their education beyond the master's level at other institutions. Four concentrations are available to suit students' individual interests and professional goals:

  • Mathematics
  • Mathematics Teaching
  • Industrial & Applied Mathematics
  • Statistics


  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics or related field with a minimum of 12 hours of upper-division mathematics or statistics course work and a grade of ‘B’ or better on all upper-division mathematics and/or statistics course work
  • Undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 in upper-level Mathematics courses
  • Official transcripts from each institution attended (must be submitted directly to UTRGV)
  • GRE General Test. GRE test scores are valid for 5 years. A waiver of the GRE requirement will be granted to applicants who show proof of completing a graduate degree (master’s or doctoral)
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Letter of Intent
