Program Details

The online Master of Science in Education in Literacy Education program is designed for students who want to earn professional teaching certification in the literacy education specialization.  The curriculum builds upon initial skills and knowledge while further developing educational professional coaches and leaders who are committed to academic and professional excellence, the research-based teaching practices, and empowerment, while respecting diversity and social justice.  Students in this program can choose from two concentrations:

  • Birth through Grade 6
  • Grades 5-12

Requirements

  • Copy of New York State initial teaching certification in a functionally relevant area (Teaching certificates from other states are considered and can be forthcoming.)
  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree in a functionally related area
  • Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 overall
  • Have earned at least 3 credits of developmental psychology, child or adolescent development
  • Have earned at least 6 credits in reading or the teaching of reading
  • Essay
  • GRE test scores
