Enroll in ESL degrees online and advance professional opportunities. The United States is growing more diverse all the time, as is the need for instructors to teach children whose first language in not English. This program looks at concepts in TESOL and second language acquisition as related to pragmatics, cognitive linguistics, intercultural communication, and multilingualism. Choose from a variety of issues to focus upon, including:

  • Developing common ground
  • The Relationship between bilingualism and cognition
  • Bi- and multilingual language use

Regardless of the concentration, all students earning this Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction will develop new theories of learning and teaching. Through the use of rigorous research, active engagement in scholarly inquiry, and collaboration with faculty on major research projects, you will learn how to help teachers overcome practical challenges that impede student success.
