The online Professional Certificate in Medical Coding equips students to sit for the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) certification. This certification provides the necessary credentials to begin a career in medical coding.

Medical coders assign a code to each diagnosis and procedure by using classification systems software. The classification system determines the amount for which health care providers will be reimbursed if the patient is covered by Medicare, Medicaid, or other insurance programs using the system.
