Southern University at Shreveport, a unit of the Southern University System located at Baton Rouge, Louisiana, was created by Act 42 of the ordinary session of the Louisiana Legislature on May 11, 1964, and designated a two-year college to serve the Shreveport-Bossier City area. Its basic emphasis was to provide the first two years of typical college and university work. SU Shreveport’s mission is “teaching and preparing traditional and non-traditional students for degree attainment, transfer, workforce, continuous learning and self-improvement.”

SU Shreveport offers certificates, technical diplomas and associate degrees. Online programs are offered to allow students to balance education, work, and other responsibilities.
