At Penn Foster College, students have the opportunity earn an Health Care Management – AS Degree*. The program begins with an introduction to health care and a brief history of technology in health care and medicine. Important when working in health care is the law and ethics of what you are providing and how it is carried out. The course Law and Ethics in Medicine provides students with knowledge of the issues concerning the delivery of health care, as well as the importance of confidentiality and informed consent.
Students pursuing a degree in health care management are expected to complete foundational courses in math and English to be allowed to progress in the program. Semesters two-four challenge students with more specialized course materials directly relevant to a career in health care management. Students may also take courses such as HIPAA Compliance, Health Care Statistics, and Human Resources Management.
The final semester allows for the choice of a general education elective. Students may choose to take music, art, or literature classes. In the form of a comprehensive review, students close the course with a practicum in Health Care Management. During this course students test their knowledge and skills by performing research tasks in a work environment, under the guidance of a supervisor.
