Floral Design Diploma
Penn Foster

Program Details

Through the Diploma in Floral Design, Penn Foster allows students to receive training in designing floral arrangements. This program is designed to show students basic design techniques, coordinating arrangements for weddings, planning holiday and theme parties, and plant care. The Floral Design program is offered completely online, so while the work is done independently, the instructors are just a call or email away if any students have questions or need help.

Students take designated courses, beginning with an Introduction to Floral Design. By mastering the basics, students are able to move on to Design Tools, where they discuss wiring techniques and appropriate arrangements for different events. Students are introduced to principles of design, including topics of line, balance, proportion, and more. One course is designated to designing arrangements for weddings and funerals. The students also practice constructing corsages and reception arrangements.

Some clients will prefer artificial flowers to real ones for their event. Therefore, students also learn types of artificial flowers and the tools and supplies necessary to create arrangements out of artificial and dried flowers. To prepare Floral Design students for holidays, the program teaches how to create fresh and artificial arrangements for Christmas, Thanksgiving, Valentine’s Day, and Halloween.

The curriculum concludes with a course in The Business of Floral Design. Establishing and marketing a business is an important key to the success of many thriving businesses. In this course, students work with floral suppliers, establish good relations with employers, and manage expenses.
