Early Childhood Education – AS Degree
Penn Foster

Program Details

Online degree programs allow for students to earn their degree on a schedule that is suitable for them. The Early Childhood Education- AS Degree*, offered by Penn Foster College, introduces students to psychology essentials, nutrition, interpersonal communication, and the development of young children. Based on a skills assessment, the student’s level of readiness is determined in math and reading to know at which program to begin.

This four-semester degree program trains students in safety and health for children, and fundamentals including mathematics, social science, and literacy. Students are allowed to modify their courses to reflect the direction they plan on pursuing through electives. Each semester, students have the opportunity to choose their electives from an approved set of options. The student’s elective categories include early childhood education, science, and general education. Each semester, a different elective category is focused on, allowing the student to choose which course they believe to be more beneficial to their interests or career goals.

To finish out the program, students learn strategies to guide children in their education. Also involved is field experience, where students observe first-hand accounts and apply the theories they have learned throughout the past three semesters by working with young children.
