Ohio University

Program Details

Ohio University’s Post-Graduate Online Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Certificate certificate is designed for those who already possess an MSN from a regionally accredited institution and seek to attain the advanced practice role of the PMHNP. The 20-credit, three-semester program features track-specific content that meets the core competencies and clinical hour requirements for PMHNPs set forth by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and can lead to specialized advanced practice certification eligibility. Upon completion, students become experts in the care of those with mental illness, addiction and multiple complex psychiatric disorders.

The PMHNP Certificate starts with clinical placement, and students will need an accepted preceptor and clinical site when the semester starts. The 20-credit Post-Graduate PMHNP Certificate program curriculum focuses on evidence-based instructional strategies and teaching techniques as well as role development of the PMHNP. In addition, the curriculum is offered part-time and includes 750 clinical hours.

When graduates complete the certificate program, they are able to succeed in professional settings including primary care offices, school-based health clinics, hospice/homecare medical practices, retail health clinics, community health clinics and more.
