Ohio University

Program Details

If you’re a nursing professional who wants to make a difference in a mental health career, Ohio University’s online MSN Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) program will help you develop the knowledge and skills to get there.

The MSN PMHNP program teaches you to provide advanced nursing practice to patients and families with mental health needs. You’ll learn how to make mental health diagnoses, conduct therapy and prescribe medications for patients with mental health disorders. Once you complete coursework, you will have the tools to provide primary mental health care that involves continuous and comprehensive services.

Most students complete the 11-course PMHNP program in six semesters. When you graduate, you’ll be eligible for the Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner certification exam. On average, 95% of OHIO graduates pass their certification exams on the first attempt.

With your MSN degree and PMHNP certification, you can pursue employment in outpatient mental health clinics, psychiatric emergency services, private practices, hospitals and more. You can also utilize your skills as a consultant or educator.

The baccalaureate degree program in nursing, master’s degree program in nursing, Doctor of Nursing Practice program and post-graduate APRN certificate programs at Ohio University are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
