Doctor of Health Science
Nova Southeastern University, primarily located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, offers a Doctorate of Health Science degree program. The program admits master's-prepared health professionals with diverse work backgrounds, interests, and life experiences who demonstrated the capacity to pursue a more position in healthcare with more responsibility.
Prospective students must already hold a master’s degree and have accumulated prior health care or health care administrative/management experience. The D.H.Sc. is a post-professional degree designed for clinical health practitioners, clinicians, public health practitioners, and health care administrators to satisfy a wide variety of disciplines. Students of the D.H.Sc. are senior practicing care providers and recognize the importance of a health occupation that requires registration, certification, and/or licensure, or the possession of managerial experience in healthcare administration.
Students of the D.H.Sc. Degree program will earn an education that emphasizes their critical-thinking and decision-making abilities, while developing the capacity to analyze published research. Students have the opportunity to complete the 48-credit-hour program through a focused curriculum, coupled with an internship, practicum, doctoral analysis, and two one-week on-campus institutes. The D.H.Sc. program challenges students to examine the current state of health care, in addition to considering the role in the provision of health care services to patients, clients, and the community at large
The doctorate program will give graduates the formal education to foster life-long learning ambitions, scholarly activity and speaking at professional conferences for students and alumni. The flexibility of the online delivery format allows busy practicing professionals the ability to earn the advanced degree while still fulfilling current career obligations.
Applicants must demonstrate a cumulative master's degree GPA at or above a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale to be eligible for regular admission. Prior health care experience is required and is strongly considered in the admissions process.
