Program Overview

Northeast Community College (NCC) offers an online Associate’s Degree in Social Science. This degree strives to provide students with the decision-making and problem solving skills needed in the social science field. Today, most careers in this field require a bachelor’s degree. Students enrolled in this program have the potential to complete their associate’s and transfer to a four-year college to complete their studies.

Through completion of this program, students should develop a broad outlook on the human condition. Courses focus on teaching students to become aware of the nature of humans in social, political, individual and historical contexts. Graduates from this program have accepted positions at museums, parks, historical sites, government agencies and much more.

Students are required to successfully complete at least 60 credit hours in order to graduate. Credits will be accumulated from general education, elective and core courses. Those who are planning to transfer to a four-year college or university should work closely with an advisor to select courses that will  transfer smoothly. Individuals are also encouraged to review the program requirements of the transfer school prior to meeting with an advisor.

This program participates in distance learning, which strives to provide students the opportunity to earn a degree. Distance learners should have self-motivation, knowledge of basic computer skills and have reliable Internet access. Through the use of the online learning program that NCC is a member of, students should be able to access course information 24/7 from a laptop, tablet or smartphone. Any additional questions about the program or distance learning can be directed at the social sciences department.
