Naval Postgraduate School is operated by the Unites States Navy. Upon foundation in 1909, the Naval Postgraduate School was located in Annapolis, Maryland, and in 1951 it was moved cross country to Monterey, California. In between the time of foundation and location change, in 1945, Congress passed legislation making Naval Postgraduate School a fully-accredited, degree-granting graduate institution. Degrees from the Naval Postgraduate School are offered to U.S. students, international students, Department of Defense civilian employees, and a limited number of defense contractors.
The programs at the Naval Postgraduate School are designed with an accelerated format with class schedules tailored to meet the diverse needs students and a focus on research. There are a wide variety of responsive and relevant academic offerings and departments that are within four unique schools. The schools at Naval Postgraduate School include:

- School of International Graduate Studies
There are also over 45 online programs to allow for further flexibility to students with hectic schedules. These programs lead to a master’s degree, doctoral degree or certificate.
