Program Overview

McHenry's Bookkeeping Certificate is designed for individuals who aspire for a career in the field of accounting but do not have time for a traditional two- or four-year program.  This certificate teaches students how to record, analyze, and summarize accounting transactions both manually and through the use of programs like QuickBooks and Peachtree General Ledger.  Recipients of this certificate are qualified for a variety of positions throughout the accounting field, such as an accounts payable clerk, an accounts receivable clerk, a bookkeeper or teller, or any entry level accounting position in business operations, administration, or financial operations.  This certificate consists of four courses, which can be completed in as little as one semester through McHenry's Fast Track program. Upon completion of the program, students are required to have a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA at MCC in order to receive the certificate.

This program is very cost effective and provides a great potential return on investment.  MCC's courses are affordable, and time investment is minimal considering the career potential within this profession.  Accounting is a constantly growing field, and skilled accountants are always in high demand throughout all types of businesses.  The field of accounting is projected to see a 10 percent increase in job opportunities over the next ten years.

    School Overview

    McHenry County College is a two-year public school located in Crystal Lake, Illinois. MCC was established in 1967 as part of the Illinois Community College system and serves most of McHenry County as well as portions of surrounding counties. MCC’s main campus is located in Crystal Lake and the school has several other satellite campuses.

    McHenry County College offers certificates of completion and associate’s degrees in twenty different programs and disciplines. Classes are offered during the daytime, evening, and weekend. Students can make the most of scheduling flexibility by combining online courses, self-paced online courses and blended with on-campus courses to pursue degrees or certificates.
