Program Details

Liberty’s 100% online Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) in Urban Ministry will give students knowledge and insight into working with urban populations as well as opportunities to conduct extensive research and develop their insights into this unique ministry. Through this program, students will gain advanced knowledge of the unique demands of urban ministry to meet the needs of people living within major cities and densely populated environments. D.Min. in Urban Ministry students will study the cultural and socio-economic challenges of inner-city communities so that they can develop culturally relevant ministries for urban populations. Students will gain insight and practical skills to initiate new ministry work, continue a thriving ministry, and excel in outreach through urban churches, parachurch organizations, and nonprofit organizations. Students in the D.Min. in Urban Ministry will write a thesis which will focus on using their ministry skills to address the needs of their target community so that they can apply practical solutions to a specific urban context. Graduates will be equipped to analyze and address the complex needs of communities and integrate Gospel-focused solutions to their work in dense cities with diverse populations. Liberty University’s Doctor of Ministry programs are designed for professionals who are actively engaged in full-time ministry. This program is intended to provide professional development for students’ careers as full-time ministers. However, the Doctor of Ministry in Urban Ministry may expand students’ career potentials into positions such as church or ministry leadership in urban settings, directors of urban ministry at nonprofit organizations, parachurch administrators, and senior pastors of inner-city churches.
