School Details

The Institute of American Indian Arts (formally known as the Institute of American Indian and Alaska Native Culture and Arts Development) is one of 37 tribal colleges located in the United States. IAIA was established in 1962 and opened on the campus of the Indian School in Santa Fe, New Mexico. In August 2000, IAIA moved its college to a permanent 140-acre campus, and since then the institute has expanded its academic programs to include baccalaureate and graduate degrees.

The mission of IAIA is “to empower creativity and leadership in Indigenous arts and cultures through higher education, lifelong learning, and community engagement.”

Many of the degrees are available to online students. A growing number of courses are offered in a hybrid flexible (HyFlex) format. This format allows for enrollment of both in-person and online students in the same class. Distance learning students receive extensive support, including tutoring, technical assistance, library services, and wellness
