Design and implement learning experiences that help people improve their performance with new knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Unlike other degree programs, the core curriculum in George Mason's online MS in Learning Design and Technology includes advanced and managerial competencies of the International Board of Standards for Training, Performance, and Instruction (IBSTPI), so you graduate ready for the challenges of senior-level roles.

Throughout the program, you'll learn the hard and soft skills that are key to developing successful programs. This includes discovering the most effective ways to collaborate with business leaders and subject matter experts. You'll also understand how to use frameworks to evaluate learning technologies, programs, and trends. These steps will allow you to design and implement new learning solutions and manage projects through their entire life cycle

By graduation, you'll be prepared to create materials for formal training settings, performance support, and more.

You'll study online at the times and in the locations that are best for you, allowing you to keep working and implement what you learn.

You can graduate in as few as 2.5 years and confidently step into new roles, such as learning or instructional designer, e-learning developer, and UX designer.

3 Program Options

Learning design is a growing industry, and George Mason offers three graduate program options to match your academic needs to your career goals:

  • MS in Learning Design and Technology
  • MS in Learning Design and Technology with an E-Learning Graduate Certificate
  • Learning Technologies Certificate with a Concentration in E-Learning

All 15 credits form the Learning Technologies Certificate with a Concentration in e-Learning may be applied to the online Master’s in Learning Design and Technology, and you will need only 17 additional credits to earn your master’s.
