School Details
With 15 students and two teachers, what is now known as Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University humbly opened its doors in October 1887. As part of the Florida State University system today, Florida A&M University continues to provide “excellence with caring” as one of the preeminent HBCUs in the country.
The school’s original mission of serving the underrepresented and underprivileged remains strong to this day, with an eye towards meeting the needs of the future. The university continues in its mission to educate African Americans while embracing individuals of all races, ethnicities, and nationalities seeking the benefits of a FAMU education.
Students can choose from dozens of bachelor’s, master’s, professional, and doctoral degrees. Educational programs prepare students with the knowledge, creativity, and critical thinking skills necessary to serve their communities.
FAMU Online allows students in distant locations and those with scheduling difficulties to access high-quality academic programs from home. Programs combine a flexible asynchronous approach with opportunities for real-time collaboration and interactions with classmates and professors.
