Program Details
Develop your skills in literacy instruction and assessment with an online Master of Arts in Reading Education. This program helps teachers become reading specialists and literacy coaches.
The curriculum includes eight courses with embedded field work, practicum experiences at the elementary and intermediate/secondary levels, and a capstone experience. Coursework in this online literacy degree focuses on learning current research in literacy education and applying it to the classroom.
Illinois-based students with state teaching licensure can pursue the Illinois Reading Specialist credential after successful completion of this program. Out-of-state students should check with their state board of education for requirements.

- The Illinois Reading Specialist credential requires Illinois licensure (PEL). Students with out-of-state licensure are welcome to enroll in the Reading Education program, but are not eligible for the Illinois Reading Specialist credential.
