Associate of Applied Science in Funeral Service
Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service

Program Details

Prepare for an entry-level position with a funeral home, embalming service, cemetery, or affiliated funeral service company with this Associate of Applied Science in Funeral Service.  These online degrees in healthcare lead to licensure and employment as funeral directors and embalmers with practical, hands-on experience that allow students to take theoretical knowledge learned in the classroom and put it into practice.  Learn the skills and abilities that are essential to this field, including how to disinfect, preserve, and restore human remains through embalming and restorative art for viewing, services/rites, and final disposition.  Knowledge related to the funeral service and funeral home are also covered, such as:

  • Conducting funeral arrangement conferences with families
  • Conducting funeral home paperwork and management tasks
  • Workplace safety guidelines for funeral service personnel

Even though this is an online degree, students benefit from the same rigorous academic coursework.  Online courses follow the on-campus classroom instruction, so all students learn the same information at the same time.  However, online students enjoy greater flexibility, studying on their own schedule while meeting weekly deadlines.
