California State University in East Bay offers an innovative online degree program that attempts to satisfy a busy professional student’s need for higher education while staying committed to current careers, community involvement, or family. The Bachelor of Arts with a concentration in Ethnic Studies may be completed entirely through a virtual classroom, allowing students the flexibility to earn a degree needed to pursue advanced career opportunities.
Students of the Ethnic Studies program will be introduced to a broad interdisciplinary program that consists of core of Ethnic Studies courses in addition to the general education courses that provide students an education in the liberal arts. The curriculum is divided into two areas of study: Asian American Studies and Genders and Sexualities in Communities of Color. Each area of concentration will expand on the student’s foundations while preparing graduates for entry-level positions. Earning a degree in Ethnic Studies may qualify graduates to continue their educational pursuits in areas of social sciences, law, and humanities. Students who wish to use the BA degree for immediate entry into the workforce may be able to pursue careers in many private or public sectors.
Successful graduates of the Ethnic Studies program should understand the opportunities and problems of various ethnic, racial, and sexual orientations. Graduates may professionally be able to address, analyze and assess a multitude of dynamic social groups. Graduates may also use the education to provide insight in personal relationships or among many organizations working with a diverse clientele.

For students requiring the first two years of lower division courses, Cal State East Bay maintains links to neighboring community colleges that offer online transfer programs. Furthermore, online courses are asynchronous and many include reading, weekly assignments, and class discussions.
