Butler University's Master of Science in School Counseling features 60 credit hours of coursework. Through online classes and hands-on experience, including 700 practicum and internship hours, the program will prepare you for school counseling licensure in Indiana. Practicum and internship experiences will be scheduled at a school site that is convenient to the learner.

Our instructors are experienced mental health clinicians. Course topics include fundamental counseling theory, group procedures, trauma and crisis response, psychopharmacology, and more. Each class fosters meaningful engagement with your peers and instructors. Upon graduation, you'll be prepared to assess, diagnose, and treat mental health disorders, practice in a culturally responsive manner, reassess the impact of your own biases, and apply the legal and ethical requirements necessary to the profession.  

Our graduates are prepared to go on to become licensed counselors in addictions and mental health in select states. They work in a variety of settings, including private practice, clinics, schools, addictions and recovery organizations, and inpatient and outpatient hospitals. The program accepts up to 12 transfer credits. Graduate in just 2.5-3 years ready to sit for licensure and make a difference in the lives of patients.
