Program Details

The Master of Fine Arts in Costume Design is an online fine arts degree coupled with a fashion degree.  This degree prepares students to become artisans and designers with key technical skills.  This program provides the opportunity for you to practice your craft by designing costumes for short and feature length films while collaborating with the director, fellow designers, and the actors.  By the end of the process, you will have created costumes that support the needs of the film.  Coursework combines a rigorous sewing program with industry specific design courses, so students are prepared for careers in multiple positions within either the theatre or film.  Graduates have problem solving skills and advanced skills in sewing, pattern drafting, draping, and specialty construction skills like millinery, tutu, and jewelry making.  This differs from the regular Master of Arts in Costume Design degree because of the extra attention paid to problem solving, work in films, and advanced sewing and construction skills.
