About Oregon Institute of Technology
Blending “theory and practice,” Oregon Institute of Technology primes students for the workplace by focusing on technology education. Oregon Tech was established in 1947 when classes were first offered to students in a deactivated World War II military hospital near Klamath Falls. The Institute continued to expand and offered its first bachelor’s degrees in 1970. Then, in 1995, Oregon Tech issued its first master’s degree. By 2003, Oregon Tech had expanded its offerings once more through the addition of an online degree program. Today it offers innovative, professionally-focused degrees in such areas as:
- Engineering
- Health
- Business
- Technology
- Applied Arts and Sciences
Today, Oregon Tech online degree programs offer more than 15 degree and degree completion programs, including associate’s, bachelor’s, and master’s degree programs, and a number of certificate programs. Oregon Tech online degrees feature the same rigor and attention as in-person classes but with the flexibility needed to learn without sacrificing other life commitments.

YesOregon Tech moves at a fast, serious pace. Classes are challenging, and the work is built for real career training, not busywork. Students who keep a steady rhythm each term are more likely to stay on track and finish on time.
The payoff is clear when hard work turns into practical, job-ready skills through hands-on learning. Costs can feel uneven in daily life, especially around meal plans. Teaching quality may differ by class, so progress often depends on strong planning, good study habits, and steady effort from term to term.
At Oregon Tech, support often feels personal and hands-on. Staff help students early, even before classes begin. That support can matter during big life changes. In class, many students can reach professors and get one-on-one help when needed.
Advising and office support can be less consistent. Students may need to start the conversation to get help moving. Even so, guidance is there, and many students can find a clear path with steady follow-up.
Online classes connect well to real work. The pace is serious and practical. Some classes are hybrid, and hybrid delivery is a visible part of the structure.
Instructor access is a key fit point. Classes are often smaller, with one-on-one professor support. That helps online learners who want direct guidance, not a fully self-serve format. The school fits people who can keep a steady schedule.
Classes at Oregon Tech are practical and hands-on. Teaching connects to career preparation, not just theory. The pace is rigorous, and coursework can be difficult. That challenge is tied to field readiness.
Professor access is a core strength. Small class sizes are common, and one-on-one help shows up even in classes over 70 students. Teaching quality is not identical in every class. Some professors are highly engaged.
Others rely more on the textbook. The overall classroom experience still feels less anonymous than many larger schools because stronger professor access and direct support remain central to how classes run.
Oregon Tech delivers practical, career-linked academics. Classes are hands-on and field-focused. Professor access is a real strength. Small classes and one-on-one time come up often.
The pace is rigorous. Courses can be difficult, but the challenge feels purposeful. Support is more uneven across offices. Some students get strong help, even before starting.
Others report slower advising and admin follow-through. Students may need to track steps themselves. Teaching quality also varies by instructor. The overall fit is best for students who want applied rigor and close faculty contact, and who can stay proactive when processes are less smooth.
