About Snead State Community College

Snead State Community College was established in 1898, when the Boaz Seminary was authorized by the Methodist Episcopal Church. The Boaz Seminary grew rapidly, and in 1906 its name was changed to John H. Snead Seminary in honor of Mr. Snead, a Boaz businessman and friend of education, who contributed land, money, and leadership to the Seminary. In the fall of 1935, Snead State College was duly chartered by the State of Alabama and began operation as a junior college under the supervision of the North Alabama Conference of the Methodist Church. The mission of Snead State is “to provide educational opportunities and enhance the quality of life for the community.”

Snead State has one of the largest distance education programs in the state. This allows students to pursue their education while balancing other life responsibilities. There is something for everyone at Snead State Community College.
