Program Details

Western New Mexico University offers a Master of Arts degree in Educational Leadership for students and professionals in education interested in leading and administrating educational institutions and influencing others in order to benefit students and educators. Students in the program will learn about the role of leader in developing school culture which will develop students’ love of learning in a safe, educationally conducive institution. The focus of the program will be to have the student learn about educational leadership and the administrative responsibilities inherent in the role of principle, superintendent and educational administrator. 

Students will focus on a curriculum that involves development of educational leadership and administrative capabilities. Those classes include administrative theory in educational administration, educational finance, and educational law. 

Graduates of the program should have demonstrated the professional and educational qualifications necessary for advanced roles in educational administration and the leadership of educational institutions. These qualifications include but are not limited to the ability to design and lead initiatives that evaluate and improve instructional programs; to develop, implement, and manage ongoing evaluation and professional development in teaching and learning; to create strategic plans using a visioning process to be shared and supported by stakeholders; to use data to effectively manage the organization and resources for a safe, secure, and effective learning environment; to articulate the school’s role within the broader political, social, economic, legal, and cultural context and responding effectively to changes that impact the school community; and to model democratic value systems, ethics, and moral leadership.
