Master of Arts in Counseling / School Counseling
Western New Mexico University

Program Details

WNMU offers an online MA in Counseling with several available concentrations. In this School Counseling focus, you’ll enhance your knowledge and skills as you prepare to work with kids of all ages in an educational environment. This program does not fulfill the requirements to become a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). However, you will be prepared to sit for the New Mexico State Board of Education counseling exam. A substantial internship within a school plays a significant role in this graduate program, but it may be completed locally. Most coursework in this online MA is asynchronous, however, there may be a few classes that are taught synchronously for you to benefit from networking with your peers. Specialized classes normally offered are:

  • Legal, Ethical, and Professional Issues in Counseling
  • Child & Adolescent Development & Counseling
  • Marriage & Family Counseling
