Program Details

The online MS in Biology degree program from Western Kentucky University is a non-thesis option designed to provide advanced training in Biology while expanding opportunities in teaching, research, and public service. As part of their elective courses, students may pursue a Peace Corps Master's International Option, which focuses on skills in:

  • Effective Leadership
  • Organizational Leadership
  • Ethics & Social Responsibility 
  • Human Relations


  • Bachelor's degree in biology or equivalent including supporting courses in science and mathematics
  • Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale
  • GRE general score of 300 or higher if taken on or after August 1, 2011 or 1050 or higher if taken prior to August 1, 2011, and analytical writing score of 3.5 or higher. If the GRE has not been taken previously, exam scores from the MCAT of 24 or higher or DAT of 16 or higher may be substituted
  • A biology graduate faculty member must be willing to serve as advisor before a student is admitted to the program 
  • Three letters of reference 
  • Statement of purpose, in which the applicant must specify the program to which they are applying, indicate their academic and career interests, and summarize relevant experiences
  • Official transcript showing completed bachelor's degree
