Program Overview

West Georgia Technical College offers a Small Business Management Certificate for students who are interested in developing the skills and the knowledge of business and entrepreneurship necessary in starting a new or small enterprise and managing and administrating its operations. Students will study the processes involved in marketing in order to meet immediate goals of attracting customers in order to produce revenue and establish the business.
 
Students will take part in a curriculum which may expand their fundamental and practical understanding of the roles and responsibilities of management within small businesses. The curriculum consists of 15 credit hours of classes which include principles of marketing, business regulations and compliance, professional selling, integrated marketing communications, and small business management.  

Successful graduates should be able to exhibit understanding of how organizations utilize media tools such as social media and advertising in order to meet marketing goals and build brand awareness. Participants should understand the process of evaluating and selecting advertising media in order to meet strategic marketing goals, understand the processes involved in creating marketing plans, including competitive assessments as part of creating marketing communications plans, and utilize market research in an effective practice to identify the needs of market segments and approaches to attracting them.

Additionally, students should learn about the operations of a small business and develop the necessary abilities to begin an entrepreneurial venture, and to understand the fundamentals of management as it pertains to running a small business.

    West Georgia Technical College is a division of the Technical College System of Georgia, and provides education to a seven-county service area that includes the counties of Carrol, Douglas, Coweta, Haralson, Heard, Meriwether, and Troup. WGTC has campus locations in Carrolton, Newman, Douglasville and Waco, Georgia. All of the campuses were originally a part of the West Central Technical College, which is based in Waco. West Georgia Technical College is the second largest technical college in Georgia. ​WGTC’s mission is "to lead economic and workforce development by offering learning opportunities using traditional and distance learning delivery methods."

    WGTC awards technical certificates of credit, diplomas, and associate degrees through the following schools:

    WGTC’s distance learning program offers completely online programs in the areas of accounting, business, fire science, management, marketing, and medical office specializations. Students are able to enroll in completely online programs which lead to technical certificates, technical diplomas or associate's degrees.
