Those interested in pursuing careers in crisis management or emergency planning can consider this PhD in Human Services focusing on Disaster, Crisis, and Intervention. Students will examine theory and strategies to respond to the needs of the community both during an initial emergency as well as the aftermath.

Classes allow students to explore a crisis at the community and regional levels and design a crisis plan to prepare for future events. The program teaches skills and practices for crisis counseling, including theories of crisis intervention and models for working with various groups. This online Human Services degree program offers two tracks: Track I is designed for students with a master’s degree related to Human Services; Track II is a pathway for students with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in an unrelated field. 

Graduates will be well equipped to:

  • Examine actions and behaviors following a disaster
  • Address stress, coping and adjustment issues
  • Identify psychological disorders such as PTSD
