Program Details

The online Master of Science in Education offers a concentration in Mathematics for Grades K-6 that is designed for elementary school math teachers.  This online elementary education degree helps teachers develop more effective practices for teaching mathematics so they can excite young students.  Coursework explores strategies and techniques for introducing students to the mathematical skills and concepts needed in high school and beyond, including:

  • Proportional reasoning

You will learn to use various manipulative materials and emerging technological resources for the classroom.  The curriculum prepares you to help students diagnose misconceptions, solve problems, and develop mathematical habits of mind along with providing an understanding of connections among mathematical concepts and ideas to students.  Graduates of this steam teaching degree will understand the base-ten number system, guide students’ thinking and reasoning about geometry and measurement strategies, and are ready to help students use their mathematical knowledge and skills in real-world problem-solving contexts.
