Walden University offers an online elementary education degree, the Master of Science in Education with a concentration in Elementary Reading and Mathematics for Grades K-6. The goal of this program is to teach you how to help elementary students cultivate a love for learning as they gain skills in reading and mathematics that will help them succeed in school and in life. With this online education degree, you will explore strategies to become more effective in reading and mathematics instruction, including implementing research-based practices, using technology to promote increased engagement and learning, and identifying areas that need improvement. The curriculum offers the knowledge and skills students will need to help their students diagnose misconceptions, solve problems, and develop mathematical habits of mind. You will learn about connections between mathematical concepts and ideas and learn about the base-ten number system and mathematical operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Graduates are able to create an environment that encourages reading and writing; uses instructional approaches, materials, and a balanced curriculum to support student learning; and uses a variety of assessment tools and practices to plan effective reading instruction.
Students can complete this specialization through an accelerated option that allows completion within a 12-month period.
