Program Overview

Walden University offers the Master of Business Administration degree with a Specialization in Healthcare Management for students and professionals in management, healthcare and other fields who want to develop an education in management.

In this program, students will learn how management becomes specialized when applied toward organizations that provide patient care, public health care, or other services that are related to healthcare. Students will learn about the U.S. healthcare system and the financial management and personnel management techniques that guide the operation of healthcare organizations, whether they are public, private, business, nonprofit, or government. Students will also learn how economic principles apply to critical healthcare decision-making responsibilities, such as the allocation and distribution of resources and services. Students will explore the techniques required to develop, manage, and control healthcare finances, while preparing for management roles in healthcare systems.

The program consists of classroom courses that emphasize real-world education through examination of cases and education that will be applicable on the job. Those classes include financial management, health policy and economics, U.S. healthcare delivery systems, business strategy for competitive advantage, accounting for business management, innovation and technology, leading people, and financial management.

Finally, in the capstone course students will utilize their education, skill, and ability to critically examine real-world examples of situations and issues in healthcare and management.

Through completion of the program, students will have demonstrated the professionalism and skill necessary to earn the  degree. The qualifications demonstrate that the student has been able to apply the principles they have learned in the program into their eventual development as functional effective professional in their field. These qualifications include the ability to demonstrate ethical, legal, and responsible behavior and explain the broader role that business has in society and their own responsibilities as a member of the business community and citizens in society.
