Program Details

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Walden University is an online RN to BSN program for students with an active nursing license and existing associate’s degree in Nursing. The Tempo Learning program is competency based, allowing students to move ahead at their own pace as they master content.

The curriculum identifies a series of key competencies students need to be successful in their Nursing careers. Once a student masters the skills, knowledge, and abilities needed for each competency, they can proceed through the program. Graduates with a BSN degree will be well prepared for increased responsibilities in leadership, case management, and health promotion.

A few of the areas of competency include:

  • Issues and trends in nursing
  • Health assessment
  • Information management and patient care technology
  • Nursing research
  • Advocacy through healthcare policy


  • Associate degree or nursing diploma
  • GPA of 2.0 or higher
  • 110 quarter credits from prior course-work 
  • College transcripts
  • Employment history

Applicants must also meet one of the following criteria:

  • 21 years of age or older
  • Less than 21 years of age with 60 quarter credit hours
  • Active member of the military or a veteran with documentation of service
  • Concurrently enrolled in an approved partner institution with an articulation agreement with Walden
